Missouri Mule Music is proud to announce
the release of "Eat Our Beans" (MM0002), the first
effort by the Garbonzos. Influenced by the hillbilly, polka side
of the Ozark Mountains, this Springfield Missouri based band,
which have been delighting audiences for over 20 years with their
cartoon-like antics, have finally translated their convivial
music to disc for the first time.
Deriving their name from an unpleasant experience with a garbonzo
bean salad while "snowed in" the mountain town of
Crested Butte Colorado, in the early 70's, founding members John
Ehlers (washboard & fiddle) and Chris Slatinsky (accordion),
along with a supporting cast, that, over the years, has numbered
well into the hundreds, have recorded their music effectively
delivering the high, loose energy the band creates wherever they
play live.
Under the production leadership of Michael "Supe duJour"
Granda (Ozark Mtn. Daredevils, Supe & the Sandwiches) and the
engineering skills of Lou Whitney (Skeletons, Del Lords, Syd
Straw), "Eat Our Beans" is an 11 song exploration of
traditional polka, bluegrass, cajun and reggae all with lyrics
that are the result of the Garbonzos' tongues, which are
perpetually planted in their cheeks.
While Ehlers and Slatinsky dance in front of the band clad in
crazy costumes, that often include viking helmets and tutus, the
music is delivered solidly by a rhythm section that includes
Michael "Supe" Granda (mandolin), Les Gallier (drums),
Tim White (guitar) and Dave Watts (bass).
9 of the 11 songs are penned by the band members (published by
Missouri Mule Music, BMI) and are of a high energy nature, woven
into a smorgasbord of sound that will titillate the ear drums, as
well as the musical pallate. Those who have witnessed the crazy
antics of the band for the past couple decades will not be
disappointed.
